RLW: Emma & Graham’s Stunning Winter Wonderland Wedding

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

On the 11th December 2016 Emma & Graham tied the knot in a stunning winter wonderland wedding. Their very special day was held at The Manor House Hotel in Castle Combe, a beautiful location for such a momentous occasion. The bride and groom may have planned their winter wonderland wedding in just three months, but it was defintely worth it! Today we have Emma with us to chat about their big day and offer some tips too…

Who proposed? How did they propose?

I feel I might of taken the whole proposal thing away from Graham. I know he was going to do something and was waiting for the right moment to pop the question. Our relationship has never been a traditional one, very early on after meeting we went on an incredible ‘honeymoon’ type holiday to South America, soon after that our beautiful daughter arrived and then buying our dream home together. So it wasn’t unusual that we often talked about getting married it just seemed like the natural thing to do, question was when? I knew I wanted our venue as it was already very special to us so I rang to see when they had availability in the summer 2017 but of course a beautiful venue like that gets booked up years in advance! However chatting to the lovely Emma the wedding coordinator it came to light there was a special last minute seasonal offer, I immediately reserved it called Graham and said want to get married in three months? Next thing I know we’re  planning our wedding! Three weeks before the wedding Graham surprised me by whisking me away for a night to a very exclusive hotel just down the road from where we lived, he had arranged everything from a gorgeous suite to a pamper treatment for me. There were flowers waiting in our suite together with champagne he cracked open the bottle took me onto the balcony and got down on one knee and proposed. This close to the wedding he still had to do it all the traditional way! And that’s one of the reasons why I love him! Read the rest of this entry »

How To Create Stunning Seasonal Wedding Themes

Thursday, January 26th, 2017

For 2017 wedding stationery trends we are loving seasonal wedding themes. Matching your wedding stationery to your wedding day’s associated season is a really great way to incorporate a variety of colours. Every season has a very individual look, all of which make beautiful wedding colour themes. All you need to do is take inspiration from the colours in nature, seasonal flowers and even the weather! Here in the UK it may seem like it’s winter for a good 6 months of the year and then autumn for the rest but we do have four seasons. Yes, some countries actually get a full three months of summer sunshine!

Seasonal Wedding Themes

Choosing a theme or colour for your big day can be quite tricky. The rise and popularity of places like Instagram and Pinterest mean that there is SO much inspiration out there – where do you even start? Of course in this blog we’re going to show you how picking seasonal wedding themes could be a great option for you…

Spring Weddings – March, April & May

In the springtime we see new buds blooming, new life being born and a subtle hint of sunshine just peeking through the clouds. There may still be a slight chill in the air but the emergence of delicate flowers such as daffodils and tulips makes it all worth while. The Spring months are mostly still classified as out of peak wedding season for venues and photographers etc. (May can sometimes be included in peak time). This of course means that most suppliers will have more flexibility with dates and may even charge you slightly less, if you’re lucky. As less people book their weddings in Spring you will also more likely have the majority of your guests attend. Planning a wedding in July sounds great until you realise half your guests already have a million other weddings to attend that month, not to mention holidays and other commitments. Symbols of Spring include; New born lambs, bunny rabbits, chicks and of course Easter. When looking at spring for seasonal wedding themes and colours we naturally lean towards soft pastel tones; baby pink, mint green, buttercup yellow etc. This colour palette is beautiful for not just your spring wedding invitations but also pretty pastel bridesmaid dresses, your wedding cake and of course the bouquet.

Bride Janet got married last spring “We got married on Easter Saturday, so our theme was really easy and kind of already picked for us. We went with Easter bunnies and chocolate mini eggs. Our look was achieved with the Ivy Ellen bunnies invites, a wedding cake decorated with mini eggs and a cake topper made especially to look like rabbits. We also filled clear plastic bunnies with mini eggs as our wedding favours. Our colour scheme was shades of lilac, purple and green, very spring like.”

As much as we all love a good spring/summer wedding, here at Ivy Ellen we can’t help but LOVE  a good winter wedding too. The fresh winter sun setting on a frosty hilltop with warm glowing fairy lights – you might even be lucky enough to have a little snow flurry (makes for amazing photographs FYI). Many couples choose winter weddings due to the out of season prices however we think you should choose those frosty months for these 7 reasons…

1. The Best of the Bunch

Many of your guests will have attended a few weddings throughout the year already, the majority of which will have been in spring and summer. This is a great opportunity to show your guests how fun a winter wedding can be and really stand out from the crowd. Read the rest of this entry »
