Sussex Bride: Reflecting On Our First Year Of Marriage

Tuesday, September 5th, 2017

Hello everyone! Today’s blog is all about reflecting on our first year of marriage. It’s been awhile since I last checked in properly and I am sorry for that! I have still been here blogging away for Ivy Ellen but took a step back after the wedding as Sussex Bride, I guess now I should be called Sussex Wife? As you may well remember my husband and I tied the knot back in November last year. Meaning we will soon be making plans to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary – boy how time has flown!

First Year of Marriage

I remember our wedding day like it was yesterday, and each time I do I still get that warm fuzzy feeling of a newlywed. I hope that doesn’t ever stop! However today I wanted to chat a little bit about what we have been up to since the wedding and whether or not anything has actually changed being a married couple…

RLW: Our Sussex Bride’s Bonfire Night Wedding Day!

Thursday, December 8th, 2016

As many of you know, our team member Stephanie tied the knot with Liam in a beautiful bonfire night wedding. Childhood sweethearts and together for seven years, they said their vows at the stunning Arundel Town Hall in West Sussex. All of of us here at Ivy Ellen then joined them along with family and friends for celebrations at The Charmandean, Worthing. Today we have the happy couple answering lots of questions and giving some top advice for all your lovely brides and grooms.

Who proposed and how did they propose? How did you meet?

We met seven years ago whilst at high school, through a mutual friend. We were complete opposites but fell in love instantly. Liam proposed to me five years later. We went for a late night walk down the seafront after dinner and he popped the question at the end of the pier in our hometown. It was a beautiful starry night and could not have been more perfect (even if I did laugh with nervousness and excitement before actually answering him). Our anniversary date is a little unsure but we usually celebrate on the 5th as this was the closest date we can remember – so it seemed only fitting g to have a bonfire night wedding really! Sussex Bride: The Wedding Day Countdown!

Thursday, October 13th, 2016

Ok, I honestly can NOT believe that Liam and I tie the knot in just 23 days! Where has the time gone? When people used to say to me “Oh the time will fly” I would just roll my eyes but now… the wedding day is just 23 days away!! Isn’t the to-do list supposed to get smaller as you near the wedding day? I feel like ours just keeps growing and we keep realising all of these things that we need to do, buy or plan!

Since I last blogged a few more of the final decisions have been made for the wedding day, so here’s a few details for you.

The flowers – finally! I spent what felt like forever trying to decide on whether to have real or artificial wedding flowers and finally my heart overruled. I love fresh flowers and can’t imagine not having the most amazing fresh bouquet on the big day. I spoke with a florist and managed to get a large bridal bouquet, three bridesmaid bouquets and 10 buttonholes for £220. We are very fortunate to have had £100 of this paid by a family member so I feel very happy with our choice and how they will look on the day! I have gone for a very dark and fresh floral look – dark reds, dark pinks and lush greens etc. I am SO excited to see the finished pieces – I am even looking into flower preservation!

Sussex Bride: Two Month Wedding Countdown

Tuesday, September 6th, 2016

Hi everyone – welcome back to my wedding countdown blog. Can you believe it’s now under TWO months till the big day?! Time has absolutely flown by and now the planning is in full swing. It feels like everything is happening very quickly now and my to-do list has grown enormous! So today is a quick little update on what’s happening in the wedding countdown world right now…

First up is how many parcels are arriving. Top Tip: If you plan to order a lot of pieces online, check that you are OK to recieve them at work. Having to go down the post office every weekend is nobody’s idea of fun. Being able to have my work address for delivery has been a life saver! This week I have had the following delivered; my wedding shoes, both wedding rings, a few bits for the bridesmaids and I have three more parcels on the way!

Sussex Bride: 82 Days Till The Wedding Day

Monday, August 15th, 2016

Yes, you did read that right. It is now only 82 days until the wedding day! Time has absolutely flown by and I feel like everything is now a massive rush – oops! I got engaged over 2 years ago, however we only started planning in December of 2015. Now with the big day looming we are rushing around to get everything done, so here’s a little insight…

This weekend I finally sorted the bridesmaid dresses – word of advice, do not be too relaxed about it! I thought that by being really easy going it would make the shopping experience easier. However as time went on I realised this gave the girls too much freedom and nothing was really getting done. So, I set more of a direct brief and between us all we found a dress that everyone liked. Originally priced at £65.99 I managed to bag all three together online in the sale for £120 – now lets hope they fit! (dress from Chi Chi London if anyone wants to know!) Sussex Bride: The Engagement Photo Shoot

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016

Hi everyone, I hope you haven’t missed my wedding planning updates too much! We now have only 94 days until THE day – which is a little scary to say the least! I feel totally unprepared and very nervous however we did have our engagement photo shoot this weekend. So today I wanted to let you in on what it was like plus share a few of our favourite pics.

So our lovely photographer Darren created a package for us which included an engagement photo shoot. He explained that it helps brides and grooms get comfortable being in front of the camera and is great for a guest book, if we so wished. He then asked us where we would like it to take place. We gave it some thought and decided on Worthing Pier. This is where Liam popped the question and we both spent alot of time as kids. The next step was deciding what to wear! Hello everyone it’s me, Sussex Bride! This week I thought I would let you in on a little secret… brides are crazy! Even the ones who don’t look crazy are secretly crazy. This is me right now, I have a million things racing through my mind at all times of the day trying to plan this wedding. So, I figured why not bring a little humour into the situation and tell you lovely readers what’s on my mind THIS week. I emphasise the ‘this’ as honestly I would go on forever if I told you it all! You ready….? This is inside a brides mind….

Sussex Bride: Wedding Dress Shopping

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016

I know you’re probably thinking WHAT?! She gets married in 4 months and she is wedding dress shopping?! Yes it’s true, I feel ashamed! I would whole heartedly advise shopping for the dress WAY before the 4 month mark but I have said once before…I am the queen of last minute changes!

So my wedding dress budget was only £600 which although seems like a good amount, in the world of bridal it is not! I decided to opt for an online dress I had seen from a well known high street retailer, Phase Eight. The dress arrived, looked beautiful and was only £500 – all done I thought. Well fast forward to a few weeks ago and I suddenly didn’t feel too confident with my wedding dress shopping experience, or my dress. I felt deflated and after trying on my dress again, I felt…fat. I’m not ‘plus size’ but I’m also not skinny, on average I’m a size 14/16 (depending on which store and how stretchy the item is across my chest!!). The dress I had chosen seemed to emphasise all the parts of me that I want to hide, so plan B was put into action.
